    About the scheme

  • About the scheme

The Railways Pension Scheme is the final salary pension scheme for the railway industry. When you take payment of your benefits you are entitled to a pension and tax-free lump sum. The cost of providing the benefits is shared between you and your employer.

You can join if you work for a railway industry employer and your contract of employment says you can.

Some people have a legal right to join because they are protected by the Railways Act (1993). For more information download a leaflet on
     Your protected rights.
