  • Ill health retirement

    The scheme may pay benefits early if you have left work because of ill health and meet certain criteria which are in the rules. You can apply for ill health benefits at any age under 60 as long as you have at least five years' membership or, together with any transferred membership, you have at least five years' membership in the section, and you apply within one year of leaving work. If you do qualify, you will also receive a bonus period of membership to increase your pension and it will not be reduced like other early retirement pensions.

    To apply for ill health benefits you can get your personnel office to make the application for you.
