  • The British Transport Pensioners Federation

    Are you nearing retirement? Have you considered joining the British Transport Pensioners Federation (BTPF)?

    For sixty years the BTPF has been helping to protect railway industry pensions, improving travel facilities and creating and promoting social activities for members across its national network of branches.

    Dedicated to keeping members active in body, mind and spirit, the BTPF was set up in 1948 by railway employees who were concerned about the safety and security of their pensions at the time of nationalisation.

    Since privatisation in 1993 over 100 new pension schemes have been introduced and through its representatives on the Trustee Board of the Railways Pension Scheme (RPS), the Pensions Committees of the 1994 Pensions Section and the BR Superannuation Fund; the BTPF aims to help secure your pension rights and those of your dependants.

    The BTPF Chairman Sam Reed explains:

    “The BTPF is affiliated to the National Pensioners’ Convention (NPC) and this enables us to add our strength to the campaign for improvements to the State Retirement Pension and associated benefits.”

    Run entirely by railway pensioner volunteers, the sixty branches organise a range of social activities, including:

    • dinner-dances and lunch time buffets;
    • outdoor activities such as walking and cycling;
    • coach and rail tours; and
    • short break holidays.
