    About the scheme

  • Benefits of membership

The Railways Pension Scheme is a first class occupational pension scheme. Your employer pays 60% of the cost of providing the benefits and you pay 40%. To receive comparable benefits from a personal pension arrangement would cost you substantially more per month.

The Trustee Company ensures that your benefits are safe and secure. You receive life assurance cover if you die in service. The scheme will provide a pension early if you are unable to work because of ill health and you meet certain criteria.

As your pensionable earnings increase so do your benefits. You pay lower National Insurance contributions because you are not paying for benefits in the State Second Pension Scheme. The contributions you pay are tax-free.

You will receive regular communications to keep you up to date. You have access to this website which offers information on your pension.
