Applying for your benefits
Before applying you should get an estimate from RPMI. This will help you decide how you want to take your benefits and tell you if they reach the minimum level.
For a summary of your options see Quick Links - Your Payment Options.
For members who joined before 1st April 2007
You can apply to take your benefits from age 50 onwards. Between age 50 and 55 they will be reduced for being paid early. See Quick Links - Early Retirement.
You must also stop working for the British Transport Police Force, unless you are over your maximum pension age.
Both you and your personnel office need to fill in the Application for Benefits form.

Application for Benefits (PM66) form.
For members who joined on or after 1st April 2007
You can apply to take your benefits between age 55 and your maximum pension age.
You must have your employer’s permission if you want to claim your benefits while still working for your employer. You will also need to check with your employer to see what, if any, pension arrangements will be provided for your future employment period.
You should also consider the effect on any lump-sum death benefit and incapacity benefits that would have been provided before you claim your benefits, as these will not be available to you once your benefits start to be paid.
